Find out why coco peat is gaining in
popularity as a growing media.
Coco peat, which is made from coconut fiber is terrific for use as a
terrarium bedding or plant substrate. It has excellent water holding capacity
yet drains extremely well. This is a renewable resource and can be used in place
of peat moss and is 100% natural and is biodegradable.
 Coconut Fiber
Coconut fiber will not turn into a rotting mush when used in wet environments
because it degrades very slowly and may lasting up to 5 years. When used as a
potting media for live plants to add additional nutrients, the coconut fiber
will require a soil amendment which is generally sold separately.
 Coco Peat
Sold as a highly compressed brick, when placed in 1 gallon of water, it will
expand in 20 minutes to yield enough material to be used in up to a 20 gallon
terrarium. Coconut fiber may be used moist to provide humidity for tropical
environments or allow to dry for use as a soft, absorbent animal bedding.
NOTE: Not all coir is suitable for growing live plants in
terrariums. Coir produced for use in garden and potted plants is NOT the same!
