In Taiwan, agricultural losses caused by torrential rains over the past week have reached $68.38 million ($2.14 billion NT) according to the Council of Agriculture (COA). More than 42,802 hectares of agriculture land including rice paddies and vegetable fields, have been damaged in central and southern Taiwan. In some areas, more than 1,000 millimeters of rain were reported.
Many fisheries were also heavily damaged in areas like Pingtung, Kaohsiung, Tainan and Chivai. A large number of livestock were killed in the flood. The COA is providing financial assistance to farmers who have suffered serious damage to their property and crops and loans to those who have suffered minor losses. |
