Rockwool is spun glass wool made from volcanic rocks, hence the name "Rockwool." Rockwool comes in various shapes and sizes and is a popular grow media for hydroponics.

Rockwool usually has a high pH level which can cause and imbalance in the nutrient solution. Pre soaking the rockwool for a 24-hour period before use, will usually stabilize the grow media. Rockwool is not biodegradable, however, they are almost never reused.
